Stories Create Community
Dear Viewers and Listeners:
South Carolina's rich history and present-day culture are saturated with some remarkable individuals. Whether they are well-known or more obscure, each one of their stories deserves to be told. That's where South Carolina ETV comes in.
For more than a decade, SCETV has served as the state's primary storyteller, weaving together many stories like threads to form the charming cultural fabric of this great state. At no time has this element of our mission been more critical than today. Given the anxiety and isolation that has stemmed from the ongoing pandemic, these human stories and experiences generate empathy and warmth amongst viewers.
More than just a source of comfort and inspiration for South Carolinians, audiences outside our borders also seem to be relating to these stories. In the coming months, four projects co-produced by SCETV will be airing on public media stations across the country. This includes season six of Reel South, which debuts on our airwaves April 8; the inaugural season of a new lifestyle and culinary series called How She Rolls, which will be premiering this May; and two new documentary films. The first, A Will to Preach, chronicles the life and impact of renowned minister and Greenville, S.C., native Bishop Will Willimon; and the second, Downing of a Flag, documents the presence of the Confederate flag at the South Carolina State House, as well as the events that led up to its removal. Those projects are expected to air in May and July, respectively.
Renowned writer and photographer Peter Forbes once said, "Stories create community." As we share these stories - and others - over the next few months, we hope to foster human connection and a greater understanding of the struggles and triumphs of our fellow citizens.
